Due to the unusual vinyl format both bands try to keep it brief. While Kurws play one piece a little bit more than two minutes long, Agathocles fits four short ones. Both sides of the release are dedicated to the problems of Intellectual Property, freedom of access goods and freedom itself.

(Grind resists much analysis beyond a curt, Maximum Rock'n'Roll-style mini-blurb for a host of reasons. The most obvious is that it's simpler to draw a handful of parallels to other respected bands in the genre, briefly address the production or lyrical stance and move on than to try and dress a review up with descriptors for a style that prides itself on directness. A glance at the rap sheet of new contributor Bryan Fajardo (Phobia, Noisear, Kill the Client, Gridlink), replacing departed skins man Frank Faerman (Insect Warfare), gives one a clear idea of what to expect from the outset: balls-out grind on the breakneck side, offering enough brutal heft to interest death metal fans while not straying too far from genre traditions. While previous full-length Crushing Fury of Bastardization featured a slightly looser, more old school sound, this is shorter, meaner and better mixed, with less of a crusty atmosphere and noticeably stripped down song structures. Fans of Gridlink will no doubt enjoy their varying degrees of debt towards thrash/crossover, but with a straight-ahead growl/shriek vocal dynamic and crisp recording, this release is right at home next to the Willowtip or early Relapse catalogues and is unlikely to disappoint anyone aware of its existence in the first place.

This is a long awaited re-pressing of this album, unfortunately following the death of another of the bands grindfathers, Stinkweed. To tell the truth there's hardly anyone in the UK right now who could hold a candle to the SIF side so it's good that we managed to get one of the few who can! Not too long ago I got the first MANGLE 7" and I was really impressed, and this recording takes it up a notch again. This is completely about utter, sheer INTENSITY. They go from the boorish Man Is The Bastard stomp to break-neck No Comment grind in an instant, breaking off for a lazy feedback-laden My War-era Ginn solo. Heavy is not the word.

After taking bloody ages to decide on how to do the packaging properly finally this record is ready to drop! Grimpen Mire are one of the finest heavy bands in the UK right now. This is "sludge" in that it's properly heavy and has tons of dissonance and screeching feedback, but these guys are from the "Sabbath home" of Birmingham and aim to hit you with the same bleak, grey life view that was so brilliantly captured on that opening toll of the first Sabbath record. There's not a stoner riff, a groovy chorus or an "ooh yeah" anywhere to be heard here (thank fuck!), this is entirely dense, negative doom metal.
Taking the untouchable template of Winter, Hellhammer and Frost, slowing things down a bit (though there are a few pacy moments here) and turning it up past 11 with a real indutrial town mentality is what these guys are all about. It seems the downer doom bubble has popped and everyone's taking on these current hard times by llstening to party riff bands, but I get the distinct impression Grimpen Mire don't really give too much of a fuck about that.

There are no boring "drone" elements here, there's no chin-stroking/beards anywhere in sight, and the exploitation schlock element has a firm basis rather than some clown who watched Susperia cos Electric Wizard said they liked it and Googled "occult flares lol" in search of an album cover. It's just TUNES and ATTITUDE. Right on!

On the flipside, Mark Riddick strikes again! So when he’s not designing perverted drawings that have become synonymous with everything that is evil and disgusting in extreme metal, he’s also playing in various projects and bands - such as FETID ZOMBIE, MACABRA or GRAVE WAX to name but a few. Yet, among all these, UNBURIED always had a personality on its own. And for their first sign of life in three years, they’re showing yet another face… Here, not only Riddick’s bass playing is right up here in your face but during the course of the almost seven minutes long “Solace”, this power-trio just adds a different and twisted spin to what NYDM is supposed to be. Infused with thrash riffing, bizarre harmonies and Matt Pike (no, not that Matt Pike!) scruffy vocals, it simply just doesn’t sound like anything else out there.

MAUSER / POST TEENS SPL FLEXI 7" 5,5eu
(Here's a killer split that I absolutely had to post after finding on the web a few days ago. This split flexi features a new track each by two of my favorite Gainsville Florida based bands as of late. On side one, Post Teens tear through their song with reckless abandon in a manner that would have made the Mummies proud. The best way for me to describe Post Teens' musicwould be to picture garage punk bands such as Obits, Hot Snakes, Night Owls, and Marked Men mixed with the snottiness and swagger of bands like The Fallouts or maybe even Rocket From The Crypt. Side two features a new song by Mauser. Mauser play a hybrid style of music that includes crusty hardcore/punk mixed with downtuned and blown out noise rock. I really liked Mauser's End Of The Line 7", and was totally blown away by the band's Isolation 12" released back in April. This time around, Mauser offer up one new song that continues with the band's formulated style of hardcore/punk influenced noise rock. Overall, this is a killer split with my only complaint being that it's way too short. Oh well, killer release, none-the-less. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Spine is a hardcore, punk, powerviolence band from Kansas City, Missouri who formed in 2011. Going by the band's pedigree alone, you know you're in for something special. Spine features members of Weekend Nachos, Kicked-In, Harms's Way, and Sorry Excuse. As for the music, Subhuman is the band's latest six song 7" that serves as a great follow-up to their now sold out demo released in 2011. As for the music, Spine seamlessly melds powerviolence infused hardcore with touches of 80's Boston youth crew flavored hardcore. The end result is six songs of vicious sounding modern hardcore that features gruff vocals, thick/crunching guitar riffs, thunderous basslines, and rapidfire drumming. Overall, Spine is a must listen for fans of Vaccine, Confines, and Scapegoat. Highly recommended! Enjoy!

(When Chaos UK called it a day after 20-something years, F.U.K. was started by long standing former member Gabba. There is a big Chaos UK sound here, although certainly more modern. To me this sounds more like the later '80s era of Chaos UK, much more along the lines of Chaos UK's material on the ENT split LP (1986) or "The Chipping Sodbury Bonfire Tapes" LP (1989). I don't think this quite has the hooks of the earlier Chaos UK material, but it is definitely still good, and perhaps i'm being unfair by comparing it to what are now considered classics anyway. This is a nicely put together release, and would have fit in nicely as a follow up to "The Chipping Sodbury Bonfire Tapes" LP if they hadn't broken up and then reformed and drastically altered their sound. UxBx is without a doubt a grinding hardcore punk band in the vein of Infest, Rot and Denak, with a similar quality to them. Something they should cherish. I love that kind of sound.Kali does remind of a similar style but plays more Grindcore. The 6 tracks on this release know a lot of slow moments with howling screams resonating through all. This is quite a key feature because this sprecific vocal sound builds up a nice tension in combination with the slow musical aggression that is perfectly balanced against the bursts of blastbeats.
